I thought though, that if a game was 'specially written; for the GS, it
would work with it fine in standard mode...

Well, the calibration isn't much, just 'center your joystick and press fire'

Well, upon further looking, here is what I see...the character will only
move up and right...(thinks...maybe it was left, but I don't think so...)
you can hold down all you want, but it won't make the character go down.
They might face in some other direction though. However, if I slide the
switches for x and y all the way to their maximum for down and left, then
the character will move in that direction...unstoppable...

I think I have, but I'll check again.

Joystick, mouse, and keyboad, all are used as movement. Although joystick,
IMO, is better than the imprecise mouse (character doesn't always take the
exact straight line you'd imagine when you click a destination) and
sitting with your fingers perched over the arrow keys, having to make
stairstep movement in order to move diagonally (ok, well you could use the
numeric keypad, but I always forget.) Also, I don't know hoe much this
matters but the joystick actually says IIe/IIc/IIgs on the bottom, not
IIe/IIc like I first said...
