Try operating the self-test. Option-Command-Control-Reset.

The Raido Shack guy is an idiot. Radio Shack DOES stock the holder.
I don't know the number, but you should ask another Radio Shack.
Show them the battery and ask them for a holder for it. Don't mention
anything about the IIGS, as that is likely to confuse them. If all else
fails, I'm pretty sure http://www.digikey.com/ DigiKey has these holders.

Yes, there were some IIGS viruses. Maybe your disks got infected.
The viruses are rare. Some even saved themselves into battery
RAM. You should be able to find some anti-virus software on the
ground ftp server.
