IIC exteral floppy and Mac SE?

Hi folks.

I am trying to "resurrect" a couple Apple IIs (IIe and IIc).

I have a working Mac SE, with Disk Copy and ProDos 3.2 disk images
(from www.info.apple.com) ready to be copied to floppies.

I have an external IIc 5.25" floppy drive that connects to the
floppy port connector on the back of the SE.

Is this supposed to work "out of the box"? The drive access
light works when the machine accesses the drive but ....

1. The Mac repeatedly asks me if I want to eject or initialize the
disk. It doesn't matter if a disk is in there or not, or if
the drive door is open or closed.

2. What type of floppies do I need? It could not format an old PC
(360K DS/DD) floppy -- this might be related to the issue in #1.

Is there some sort of hardware/software option I haven't considered,
or is the drive just broken?

Thanks in advance!
