You need to get a decent telecom program, a high-speed GS modem cable, and
a NULL modem connector. Good telecom programs are ...
Spectrum
AnsiTerm 2
ProTerm A2 3.1
Modem MGR
You can get a high-speed GS modem cable from Intrec (888-PROTERM;
http://www.intrec.com ). You can get a NULL modem adaptor from ThinkStuff (
http://www.thinkstuff.com/ ) and, maybe, a high-speed GS modem cable, too.
Radio Shack also sells a NULL modem adaptor.
Once you have a telecom program running, you can download ShrinkIt, System
6.0.1, etc. and get them running on your GS. For a description of the
'bootstrapping' process see the files ShrinkIt34.txt and Shrink2Plus.txt on
Asimov-GS at ...
ftp://apple.cabi.net/pub/applegs/Utilities/SHRINKITandGSHK/ .
Basically, you start with UNSHRINK.SYS-- it is not shrinked and can easily be
changed back to a .sys file after it is transferred without using any filetype
changer. UNSHRINK.SYS lets you unshrink ShrinkIt v3.4. Once you have ShrinkIt,
it's easy to get the System 6.0.1 disks, etc. going.
You, _could_ make do with a smaller telecom utility than those mentioned
earlier; but, since you will eventually want to move lots of stuff via z-modem,
you might as well start with a good one.
