My question to you is:  What would you hook up to FireWire on a PC?
And if you can think of something then tell me if that device is
available using a different interface and whether using FireWire would
be a major improvement for working with that device.

Why don't PC's come with built in FireWire?  There is nothing that
needs it.

Personally I don't know why PC's come with USB built in now.  They've
been on PC motherboards for a few years but there just hasn't been any
devices available for USB that weren't availabe using a different
interface and that would gain any benefit from using USB.  This is the
same situation as FireWire.
