It isn't a problem with any particular speed.  The problem with the
original IIc motherboard is that _all_ speeds are about 3% too slow.
This doesn't affect dumb 300 bps modems, but many smart modems (1200 bps
and faster) can't cope with the difference.

It depends on the particular device you are connected to.  I've had no
problems transferring data at 9600 bps or 19200 bps between a IIgs and
original IIc via a null modem cable.

The only issue with 1200 bps is that this is the default speed used by
the IIc modem port when you initialize the firmware with PR#2 or IN#2.

To change to a higher speed, type Ctrl-A, the appropriate number for the
desired baud rate, then the letter B.

Ctrl-A 14B        gives you 9600 baud.
Ctrl-A 15B        gives you 19200 baud.

In case you need to get out of terminal mode again, type "Ctrl-A Q".
