Hi, this is the wrong newsgroup. Comp.sys.apple2 is an Apple II
newsgroup, which is for Apple's older line of computers. Mac
questions should be posted to comp.sys.mac.* groups.
But your question also interest Apple IIGS users, if one thinks
about it, because the IIGS also uses sound input.
To answer your question, there are two types of microphones,
whether your have a IIGS, a Mac, or a Windows PC. One is
a plain old mic that does not need power. The other is called
an electret condenser mic, which requires power. I think you
are trying to plug in a regular mic when your Mac expects the
condenser type. Condenser mics are usually smaller.
