Connecting LaserWriter to a PC
I recently managed to acquire an old LaserWriter. The printer is still
chugging along and successfully prints the startup page.
However, I'm attempting to connect it to a (no flame mail, please) Windows
98 PC with the hopes of moving it to a Sun SPARCstation or my Linux PC
eventually to act as a network printer.
Win 98 does have drivers for the LaserWriter, but I can't figure out how
to connect the printer or if I'm doing something wrong.
I currently have it plugged into serial port 1 (COM1) and have attempted
to print to the 25-pin port, which I can only assume is serial, and the
9-pin port with no success. The baud rate is correct, and the parity/stop
is set to 8-N-1. The printer still will not print and the Test light has
a tendency to blink intermittently.
Since I don't have a manual and the original LaserWriter documentation is
not available on Apple's web site, I'm hoping that someone can help me
with this -- particularly since I'm not a Microsoft advocate. :) (See
tagline.)
