Example: Test Drive II
On the partition 4 of a Hard Drive volume named TEST.
We want to put it inro /TEST/GAMES/TD2MASTER
So, we have:
/TEST
PRODOS
SYSTEM ...
.
.
.
NEWPRO
SYSP16-----P16
SYSTEM.SETUP
DESK.ACCS
DRIVERS
START (START from the patch diskette).
DRIVERS
START (START from the patch diskette).
GAMES------TD2MASTER-----TD2.SYS16
SYSP16-------TOOLS
FONTS
And with PROSEL 16 specifications:
Title: Test Drive II
Prefix: /TEST/GAMES/TD2MASTER
Appli: /TEST/NEWPRO
Startup: /TD2MASTER/TD2.SYS16 ou TD2.SYS16
Note: The SYSTEM directory (under /TEST/TD2MASTER) doesn't exist because
it's useless, the application doesn't contain any specific files in his
SYSTEM directory.
If a RAMDisk (/RAM5 from the memory manager) is present, it will be
disabled and erased. It will be re-install after reboot or quit, but the
information on it is lost.
It's possible to set a second path in the STARTUP, delimited by a coma;
this optional path is used to replace a second disk. The name will be
the
same as the second disk name.
Example: Rocket Ranger.
On partition 4 of a HD volume named TEST. As the software is on 2 disks
named /ROCKET.RANGER1 and /ROCKET.RANGER2, the app will be in 2
sub-directory: /TEST/ROCKET.RANGER1 amd /TEST/ROCKET.RANGER2.
So, we have:
/TEST
/TEST
PRODOS
SYSTEM ...
.
.
.
NEWPRO
SYSP16-------P16
SYSTEM.SETUP
DESK.ACCS
DRIVERS
START (START from the patch disk).
ROCKET.RANGER1-----RR.SYS16
SYSP16------TOOLS ; with only TOOL025
SYSTEM------CW ; only TOOL025 file
SYSTEM------CW ; only one file
FONTS
GFX
SND
TXT
ROCKET.RANGER2-----GFX
SND
TXT
PROSEL 16 specifications:
Title: Rocket Ranger
Prefix: /TEST/ROCKET.RANGER1
Appli: /TEST/NEWPRO
Startup: /ROCKET.RANGER1/RR.SYS16,/TEST/ROCKET.RANGER2
Startup: /ROCKET.RANGER1/RR.SYS16,/TEST/ROCKET.RANGER2
or Startup: RR.SYS16,/TEST/ROCKET.RANGER2
Note: The SYSTEM directory (under ROCKET.RANGER1) includes only CW it's
the only application file in SYSTEM directory.
We could avoid 2 directories by putting all files of GFX, SND, TXT under
ROCKET.RANGER2 in respective directories under ROCKET.RANGER1.
For P8:
- Create a directory with the same name as the application volume.
- The Launch.System program must be in the directory of the app to
launch.
- We launch with the application directory as the prefix, as
LAUNCH.SYSTEM
application and as STARTUP original application. We can put STARTUP as
"hard" (for the Finder...) or as a parameter (for PROSEL or WINGS).
Example: Zany Golf
Same as Test Drive II, to install in /TEST/GAMES/ZANY.GOLF/DISK
/TEST
/TEST
GAMES/ZANY.GOLF/DISK------LAUNCH.SYSTEM
DOS8.SYSTEM
. .
. .
. .
PROSEL specifications:
Appli: Zany Golf
Prefix: /TEST/GAMES/ZANY.GOLF/DISK
Appli: Launch.System
Startup: DOS8.SYSTEM
Pour Dungeon Master:
Only the altered files are in the directory. You just have to copy this
directory anywhere on the hard drive and adding the missing files:
DUNGEON.BONUS, DUNGEON.GAME, DUNGEON.KEY, GRAPHICS.GAME. The DUNGEONSAVE
directory will contain saved games. The START (or DM.START who also
flush
memory) file is the one to be launched (don't launch DUNGEON.MASTER !!!)
It works well under GS/OS 5.04. But with 1.25 Mb, try to reduce number
of
INITs, CDAs, NDAs, etc. or it will crash. The best is to flush memory
(as
with Prosel) before launching Dungeon Master.
Restrictions: - Only one application's volume is managed under Prodos 8.
For example, my patched Battle Chess version doesn't
work.
- Only two application's volumes under Prodos 16.
- No GS/OS version.
- Delicate installation for Prodos 16 version, especially
to manage one SYSP16 for every applications.
Remarques: - The software is mostly useful for games. It's hard to
believe
that a professional application or utility can't run under
last system version (P8 or GS/OS 5.04 unpatched).
- There's not many ProDOS 8 or 16 apps using more than one
volume without being hard-drive-installable.
