    Actually there were 2 thermal printers that Apple came out with (at laest
that I know of).  One was a Thermal Transfer Printer that used regular paper
and a special Wax based ribbon and it worked through the serial port.  The
other was called a "Silent Writer" and did use a special interface card  and
used Heat sensitve paper for the image.
