     Are you sure it is missing pin 9? The pic of the pinout ...

DB-9 Female Socket (on computer)

is for the socket. The pic would be reversed for the male Plug; so,
maybe the pin missing is Pin 6, which has no function for these mouses.
(Our old Mac Plus mouse is missing pin 6.)
