I just found this out the hard way, after starting to do it myself... the AOL
files have been archived. They're available from ftp on
ground.icaen.uiowa.edu, in /collections/aol or somewhat close to that. In
fact, there's been a drive on csa2 recently to revive the America Online Apple
II area. Check out <<aol://4344:1264.a2main.10029531.514525857>>. That's
AOL's internal address for its A2 forum.
The best modem software is either Intrec's ProTerm
[(http://www.intrec.com/aii.html) ProDOS] or Seven Hills'
[(http://www.sevenhills.com/applesoftware/index.htm) GS/OS] Spectrum. If
you're running GS/OS, you should probably go with Spectrum, esp. since it
supports an Internet browser of sorts. Any external modem can work for you if
you'll use a mac to modem cable. The pinout is the same as the IIgs's serial
port.
