Good question...

Here's another idea...if I recall correctly, the connector is attached to
the PCB only by means of the solder connections.  Have you considered
desoldering and completely removing the connector, then attaching the
connector to the PCB with an epoxy before re-soldering the leads?  A
mechanical connection between the connector body and the PCB should be
adequate to strengthen the unit; the whole problem is that components
attached only by a wave-soldered joint are not very mechanically strong;
merely doing the solder re-melt ought to improve the mechanical strength
there, but I would think that nailing down the connector would almost
certainly prevent recurrance...
