Re: NetScape 5

Converting a Jpeg that would normally fit on the screen of a Windows or
Macintosh machine would take about 1 minute with the accelerated (12.5 MHz)
IIgs. This is approximate.

This is not acceptable for a web-browser. Pages with 5 large Graphics would
take 5 minutes to load.

A IIgs browswer obviously needs:
**********************************
its own special tags, to detect IIgs MULTIMEDIA. (paintworks animations,
MIDI, SuperHiRes Graphics, .Wav files, etc.)

It should give you the option to click on OTHER formats, and let you:

1)convert JPEG/GIF to viewable, and see them on your screen (NDA?)
2)Convert other types for IIgs viewing
3)download for later use

IF someone with a nice high powered computer would set it up with a command
SEND/RECEIVE ability, and a nice GRAPHIC conversion program, (call this a
graphics server)

You could have a PLUGIN for the browser that intercepts web=browser actions
(like when a JPEG graphic is included in the HTML in a webpage), and then
sends the Graphics Server a command
"DOWNLOAD AND CONVERT AND SCALE
HTTP://blah.blah.blah/blah.blah.blah/picture.jpeg"

So, the Graphics server would grab the JPEG, convert it to SHR graphic, and
SCALE it for the 640 X 320 screen (alternatively you could have a window with
scroll bars so you could view the whole graphic, not on screen at once). Then
the Graphics Server would "SEND picture.SHR" back to the GS browser, so it can
EASILY AND QUICKLY be displayed. You would have loss of resolution, color,
size. But it would still be EXCELLENT!

This could be setup as a PAY service! How about $10.00 a month to view the
WWW with NON GS SPECIFIC graphics? Would someone with a nice computer that is
hooked to the web be willing to set it up for this purpose, for 10 bucks a
month from EACH user? (I figure there would be an ABSOLUTE minimum of 30
people using it. 30X10=$300 a month. Hmmm. We could just BUY a nice
computer (would a 386 do it? A 486? A pentium? A mac?), and pay it off at
$10.00 apiece each month, AND pay for the connection fees of that computer)
