Apple II's

I thought all you II users would like a good story about the platform.

My name is David Phillips I am the Vice President of the Apple Macintosh
Association of Queensland/Brisbane/Australia. I run a IIGS Ramfast SCSI
(slot7) a Apple Hi-speed SCSI (slot6) 4 meg RAM 1 meg RAM Card A board to
bring the speed up to nearly 10MgHz. Superdrive Card for the 1.4 floppy
drive. and Internal 170 meg hard drive and and external 400 meg hard drive.

Now that I have given my credentials I will relate the following tale of
success in reversing the desision of a school to get rid of their Apple IIs.

Some months ago I received a call from a computer person offering a number of
Apple IIs to our club. This gentleman is a IBM tech and I would call him a
computer person because his mind was not closed to what I had to say. (DOS
Head=Closed mind=Dick Head).

I pointed out to him that the 5 or 6 Apple's he would have given me would
cost a lot of money to replace especially if he factored in the cost of
replacement of the software. This computer person then went away and
consulted with the teachers. When he contacted me later he told me that the
teachers had told him that the software was terriffic and they had lots of
Disks.

The upshot of it is that he decided to keep them for another year but to
concentrate all the scattered machines to the library with all the software
with them.

This area then became so popular that they had to start a roster system to
solve the demand for use of the machine, so popular did they become.

He called me just recently and advised me that he had now arranged for them
to have their own room and he wished to network then, he offered to pay
whatever fee was required to connect them. I declined any fee stating that I
would be delighted to set up the system for them, and see the machines put to
such a good use. He has insisted on a fee so I have accepted $50 and then
donated a MAC SE to use as a server. I will partitions it so that it has a
PRODOS partition to store Disk Images on I hope to use the Program that
stores DOS 3.3 on Hard Drives and runs them from there.

Any one with some phone net connectors. I would accept some to help in this
project. Willie Yeo who I believe is know on this forum is a friend and will
probably help me in this project.

I hope to be able to report of the successful completion of this project
soon.

The fact that it was so successful in the library so as to require a roster
was success in itself. I hope this story gives some heart and ideas to all
you Apple II users reading this.

There's life in the old girl yet (sorry about the sexist saying but it
matches the meaning well)
