Looking at the Star Micronics Home Page at www.star-micronics.co.jp, 
there was no mention whatsoever of the SJ-144 MC model. Or, if there was,

So, with no technical specs available from the manufacturer, I can only 
take an educated guess...
 
Entering "Star SJ-144: at the AltaVista search engine, brought up a link to
Apple. The page listed showed what printer drivers are recommended to use 
with a Mac:
 
   Star Micronics America, Inc. StarJet SJ-144 MC Epson LQ
 
So, it appears to be an Epson LQ clone, and if it works with a Macintosh, 
then it seems to be a safe assumption that it sports a serial port.
 
If the above logical deductions are accurate, then the Harmonie drivers will
work with that printer, using the Printer76k port driver and one of the Epson
LQ drivers.
 
That said...more technical information about the printer is needed. Did 
you get a manual with the printer? If so, please supply a little more 
info about the printer.
