Hi Mitch,
I frequent both Delphi and csa2. I find it very strange that when all
the "Delphi" people were on Genie prior to its demise as the
major commercial online A2 meeting place, there wasn't any issue over
"Genie" people vs. csa2 folks. I really can't tell you why there is a
difference between the perception of Delphi vs. the old Genie. The only
thing I can think of (and I'm NOT trying to start a flame with this) is
that Delphi has free access to the message base and thus can provide fuel
to those on csa2. This has led to messages on an Usenet newsgroup (csa2)
about comments from a commercial online service's message board (Delphi)!
I find this strange in a way.
And, for the most part it more or less is the same folks propogating
the same arguments. The arguments, and the participants, are well
known to the small A2 community. At this point, some predominantly use
Delphi while others predominantly use csa2. So, when the flames fly,
one side will make generic attacks on "Delphi" people while the other
makes generic attacks on "csa2" people.
The bottom line is that:
The arguments are old and the same. (at least the basic premise)
The participants more or less remain constant.
The medium used is the same. (electronic message boards/newsgroups)
So, for those trying to keep score. It really isn't "Delphi" vs "csa2"
folks....It's really certain folks vs. certain other folks.
Lastly, both csa2 and Delphi have some meaningful Apple 2 discussions.
Delphi is moderated. csa2 isn't. Delphi doesn't have the flames
because of this. Some think this is good, others think it is bad. All
I can say is that I actively post to Delphi because I know I won't be
blasted for what I say. I've become basically a lurker here on csa2
because I don't like flamewars or excessive noise. I wouldn't call it
'hiding' over on Delphi. I just feel more comfortable taking part in
A2 discussions there.
As for announcements of Apple 2 software, all the news makes it over
to csa2 as far as I can see. It may be delayed a few days from its
initial release on Delphi but this is no different from the days of
developers making announcements on Genie first. I see no difference
since the exodus from Genie to Delphi occurred.
I encourage all readers of this newsgroup to try the Delphi A2
forums as well. See for yourself which environment is best suited
to your A2 needs. Or, like the majority of us, reap the benefits
of both by reading them both!
Paul.
