It wasn't a bad suggestion. It makes sense that the clone maker would
use a pinout that matches a common joystick.  But I can't think of what it
might be.  I thought I had an inspiration last night.  What about the
joysticks for the PCjr?  But from a picture of the connectors on the back,
it sure doesn't look like a DB-9 (or DE-9 for that matter) connector for
the joysticks.

On the other hand, if a clone maker used a pinout that wasn't common, then
the buyer would have to buy the joysticks from the company, at whatever
price the company wanted.
