     Could be.

     Connection should be "Direct to COM 1" (or COM 2); Port Data,
Parity, Stop Bits settings should be 8, None, 1. Flow control should
probably be XON/XOFF or none.

     Under Settings, Emulation set to "TTY" should be okay. In ASCII
Setup, I'm pretty sure you want everything unchecked (except, maybe,
"Wrap long lines ..." in Receive) and Line and Char delays set to 0.
     
     Most likely, you would want to start the Receive end before
starting a Send.

     Also, if you have not used Hyperterm much, remember you have to
Open the config file in which the settings are saved.
