Dot Matrix and Apple IIGS
Sorry if this question offers shades of ignorance, but I'm at a loss.
And humble. It seems a couple o' weeks ago, I scored a free Apple IIGS
from my English teacher. (What an innocent lady. It was a limited
edition Woz.) Anyway, she afforded the printer to someone else, and I was
left printerless, but happy.
And, this morning, there was a retro-computer sale nearby that I went
to, and picked up a nice 5.25 drive, a hard drive of indeterminate size,
and a couple of printers (and a PS/2, which I'll be disecting shortly
here). Much to my misfortune, they had no Imagewriter, as those tend to
be the printer of choice for IIGS's. But they did have some ol'
clunkers. Some dot matrix printers. So, I snagged two and went home.
Upon my return, I began to set up my new contraptions, and located a
parallel port so as to attach one of my new printers. It's a Printech
II. I slipped it into slot 1, snapped the wiring into the card and the
printer, and crossed my fingers. As far as I know, it should have been
ready with just that, but I could be wrong. I went into GPLE, a BASIC
editor, and typed in PR#1. But, when I listed a program, nothing
happened. The select light was on, and the power was flowing through
everything. Then I went to AppleWorks and attempted to print something
there, changing the configuration to Apple Dot Matrix. (I named it
Sally.) Still, upon printing, nothing happened.
So, what I'm wondering is if anyone friendly soul out there can
understand my problem, relate even, and offer some suggestion or advice.
I apologize that I don't know more about what I'm talking about, but with
any luck, that will someday change. Much obliged for any assistance, and
if I can ever return the favor, well, just lemme know.
