IIc+ Ports <-> PC Transfer Help

I have an apple IIc+ that I've been trying to connect to a PC with ADT2222.
I can't establish any communication with the IIc+ and PC with a null modem
cable.

Here's what I have:

Apple IIc+ [Modem Port] <round connector---- Apple serial cable-----9 pin
d-sub> [Serial Port] PC

I've also tried to put a 'laplink serial cable' between the 9 pin d-sub and
PC.

On the Apple IIc+, I type IN#2 (THIS IS WHERE I THINK THE PROBLEM IS!).
Should I type IN#2 on the Applie IIc+ or something else to get it to listen
to the modem port?

I've also tried the printer port but no joy.
