Using PR# to redirect output

I have used PR# to redirect output on a Laser, but can not get it to
work right on an Apple ][E.  I want to be able to control the Apple and
view it from a terminal program.  I have done this on the Laser, but I
can not do it with the ][E.  I can redirect input using IN# but not
ouput.
