This demands certain hardware/software so it won't be an answer for
everyone, but:
If you have (a) AppleTalk, (b) a IIGS, (c) a Macintosh, (d) _Any*_ printer
(serial or AppleTalk) that will work with the Mac and (e) the old software
PostScript RIP 'Freedom of Press' running on the Mac, then you can print
over the network from the GS.
Yes, you can print from the GS to _any*_ printer, *with the sole proviso
that the printer's own Mac driver needs to work with Freedom of Press. At
the GS end you need only the LaserWriter driver.
I can print in this way to a HP LaserWriter 320 (AppleTalk), an Epson
StylusCOLOR 800 (no AppleTalk), an ImageWriter (no AppleTalk) and (before I
sold it on) I used to print to an original Epson StylusCOLOR.
If anyone is interested I'll post the details (as I say, you need a copy of
Freedom of Press and that may be the sticking point, because I believe it's
no longer available - I don't know whether current software RIPs like
StyleScript or Birmy Power RIP work in the same way).
Final point: no network colour printing from the GS - b/w only.
