It seems I'm cursed with failing GS monitors: I have a Commodore Amiga
1084S (replacement for my failing-but-probably-fixable Apple RGB) on my GS.
Well, the 1084 has now started acting up too. When the monitor is cold, no
problem. As it begins to warm up the video 'flicks' off, leaving a blank,
olive-green coloured screen. The first couple of times this happens a
gentle tap on the side of the monitor casing brings the display back, but
as the monitor gets warmer the display goes completely (no amount of
banging will shift the blank screen).
Can one of you monitor experts give me a clue as to what the problem is?
As it seems to be heat-related I thought that thermal expansion could be
breaking a connection somewhere. But I've opened the casing and I can find
nothing obviously loose.
Oh yes - the same phenomenon happens when the monitor is used with a //c
(hooked up to the composite input) so the cable between its SCART RGB input
and the GS isn't a cause. It takes longer to crop up with the //c though -
doubtless due to slower heat build-up (the monitor isn't on top of the //c
CPU as it is with the GS).
