    Well, yes and no. The actual connector used for the IIc Plus 
serial ports are identical to the Apple IIgs and Macintosh--like
them it too uses a mini-DIN8. So, if you want to plug in a modem
or printer, the same type of cable will fit. That is where the
simularity ends.

    On the otherhand, the IIc Plus--just like its older cousin,
the Apple IIc--still uses a pair of 6551's to control the serial
ports and the very same signal is available through them. Only 5 
of the 8 pins are used and it does *not* support the features of
the Apple IIgs and Macintosh ports (you can't use the Apple MIDI
box for example).

    Well essentially if you plugged a DIN5 to mini-DIN8 adapter
onto the back of a regular Apple IIc, you'd have the same ports
as the IIc Plus model. The connector changed, nothing else.

    As far as modems are concerned, you should be able to do up
to 9600 baud (on my own IIc, if I try to connect at 14.4K, it
loses characters and ProTERM frequently locks up).
