I don't care what computer schools are using, teaching machine specific
skills is not a productive use of class time. Most of the machines kids
are using will be obsolete by the time they graduate. Instead, the computer
should be a tool to teach a subject just like a book or video. Showing
kids video on Beta format won't stunt their growth anymore than running
what amount to a flashcard program in something less than 24 bit color.
Personally, there's quite a few things I'd like to see our schools spending
money on than something with as short a useful life as a computer.
