A2 Network Program Launcher?
Hey folks,
I'm working with a network of 30 GSes using an LC580 with Appleshare
4.0.2. Each GS has a finderless sys 6.0.1 startup floppy, and the boot
program is set to launch a MECC Menu program. So far so good.
Now I want to launch a keyboarding program off the network. It's inside
its own folder on the server, and if I escape into the launcher, I can
maneuver to the folder, open it and run BASIC.SYSTEM, which then
launches STARTUP and runs the program.
I tried to write my own menu type launcher using Applesoft BASIC, but
when I tell it to run the program:
10 PRINT CHR$(4) "-/MACSERVER/FOLDERNAME/BASIC.SYSTEM"
it launches BASIC, but doesn't see the STARTUP.
If I write this line:
10 PRINT CHR$(4) "-/MACSERVER/FOLDERNAME/STARTUP"
then the program tries to boot, but asks for the original disk to be
inserted. This doesn't happen when I boot BASIC.SYSTEM from the GS
launcher inside the folder directly. Does anybody have a workaround?
OR, does anybody know of a good ready made launcher program I can run on
the network? I heard that Apple had one called ARISTOTLE, but it doesn't
seem to come with Appleshare software. The System 6.0.1 GS installer
disks have an option to "update" Aristotle. Anyone know where this can
be found and if it will work.
Thanks!
