Solution: Imagewriter under MS-Windows

[This is in response to a thread from about 9/19/98, "Imagewriter and
windoze (problem!)" and other similar threads.
Followups to comp.periphs.printers].

To use the ImageWriter (I/II/Wide) under MS-Windows 3.1/95 (& maybe NT &
98) you need to:

1. Install the C-Itoh 8510 driver
2. Configure the serial ports for 8-N-1
3. Configure them for some type of handshaking (hardware or xon/xoff, I
forget which works)
4. Use as small a buffer as possible.

This should work.

I think MS-Windows 3.0 shipped with an AppleTalk Imagewriter driver.

For other OSes:
Use and Imagewriter, C-Itoh 8510, or Apple Dot Matrix printer driver
(in that order of preference) if available. As a last resort,
use it as a text-only printer at 9600-8-N-1 with handshaking as
outlined above.

PostScript on the Imagewriter:
GhostScript has an Imagewriter driver available, but may require a
recompile.

Note - these drivers may or may not take advantage of the wide printing
on the IW-Wide or the "2-pass" resolution available in these printers.
