     There should be no need to mess with a .zip file to get DSK2FILE.
You can get DSK2FILE in a standard ShrinkIt file at ...

ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/Emulators/ . (Avoid using http:// ...
for contacting most Apple2 ftp sites.) To download via a PC using a
typical net browser, right-click on the file name to download and select
"Save Link As".


     The file to download is DSK2FILE50.SHK . This includes version 5.0
as well as the tried and true version 4.3 along with directions.

     A .SHK file should be downloaded to PC without any special
processing on the PC-- i.e. just get the binary file and transfer it to
your Apple II. NULL-modem is a good way to transfer stuff from PC to an
Apple II.

     On your Apple II, find some ProDOS hard disk or diskette with at
least 50kB or so of space and create a folder named "DSK2.Stuff". Use
ShrinkIt or GS-ShrinkIt to unshrink the .SHK file contents to this
folder-- you will end up with several files, including a couple versions
of DSK2FILE and info in a Text file.

Note: ShrinkIt and GS-ShrinkIt can unshrink an .shk file even if it
arrives on your Apple II as a Text type file. The file types of the
files contained in the .shk file are preserved and will be correct when
the .shk file is unshrinked.   


     One thing which is not emphasized very often is that doing PC-to-A2
transfers and dealing with disk images requires Memory and Disk Space.
If you do not have a IIgs and plan on doing lots disk image downloads
and conversions to diskette form, a bare-bones IIgs with a 5.25" and
3.5" drive is well worth the cost in terms of speed and ease of
operation.
