Personally, I'd find a hard drive and go for FutureVision, unless you
just want the pure nostalgia of a GBBS-run BBS. FutureVision is a
full-featured BBS system, and it's still supported by its authors (and
just about everyone who uses it). Plus, since the language it's written
in (METAL) comes with the package, it is really easy to customize the
software and even write your own add-ons.

I mean I, who have the programming ability of a brain-dead parrot, have
written a number of games and add-ons for it.

I have no idea where the "official" site for it is anymore, though. But
I'm pretty sure someone here does.
