Hmm ... I probably shouldn't reply, since I'm repeating myself, but
what the heck, eh :)

The alternative would be to disassemble the HFS FST and try to fix
that. Find out what makes it unstable (yes, even _with_ the patch).
That sounds like even more work to me :)

However, might I remind all and sundry that we are selling the furs of
an animal we haven't even killed yet. Before there is a chance of
rewriting ProDOS or patching HFS or even porting ext2fs, the structure
of an FST needs to be understood, and its interaction with GS/OS.
Which, by all accounts, is slightly different for each FST. Once
_that_ work is done (unless, as Mike pointed out, someone at Apple
"slips" the spec or source codes), then we can bicker about whether to
call the yet-to-be-written FS "GSFS" or "ProDOS+" or whatever.
