MacOS 8 and keyboard question

Prior to installing MacOS 8, my originally Japanese Mac Performa 5210 (since it was bought here in
Japan) was running smoothly even after I installed the OS 7.5.5 upgrade--ENGLIGH VERSION.
But, now with OS 8 English version, the keys I type in using the same old keyboard--JAPANESE
KEYBOARD--comes out differently on the screen.  For instance, the "@" key on my keyboard (which also
has Romaji keys or characters) now types out the character "[" on the screen.
I've tried copying the keyboard layouts I once had installed under my previous 7.5.5 system software
into the OS 8 System suitcase, but was unsuccessful.

PLEASE HELP...I've exhausted all my own options, and could use some suggestions, any suggestions.
