Hi there, 
   My suggestion is to wait for the upgrade to 8.5, which is due within the
next 2 months. I have seen betas of this running & it's much quicker than
8.1 in just about every aspect. All of this of course assumes that your Mac
is capable of running OS 8.1. Only 68040 machines & PowerPC equipped Macs
(excepting both 68040 & PowerPC upgrade cards) are upgradeable to OS 8.X
