Of course they can do this...Apple 'owns' the name AppleWorks.  It 
originally started out as an Apple program, then went to Claris
(Latin for wholly owned subsidiary), and then back to Apple when
Apple decided that Claris was no longer needed.

Quality had a license to use the AppleWorks name for their upgrades,
but they don't own the name.
