Shifty List 2.0.1
Requires an Apple IIGS running System 6.0 or later.

What's Shifty List?
Shifty List is a system enhancement for the Apple IIGS computer that
vastly improves your control over your computer's startup sequence. In
the simplest possible terms, Shifty List lets you set up a list of
system extensions, desk accessories, and so forth that are loaded if
you shift-boot your computer. Normally, shift-booting results in no
inits or DA's being loaded, but Shifty List changes that.
Let Your GS Get an Early Start
Shifty List lets you select extensions (both TIF and PIF), desk
accessories (both NDA and CDA), control panels, BRAM image files (so
you can have your control panel settings adjusted automatically),
graphic screens, sound resource files, and applications.
There's a boot-time menu you can access to select one of up to 30
scripts you create, to customize your boot on-the-fly. You can even
set up scripts that automatically execute if you boot holding down
certain keys on the keyboard.
Here are just a few of the things you can do with Shifty List:
* Create a script that loads up just the extensions you most need,
and automatically boots you directly into your telecommunications
software.
* If you're a programmer, create a script that loads your favorite
debugging utilities and nothing else.
* Create a script that plays a sound effect after every extension
loads, so you can isolate which extension is crashing your Apple
IIGS.
* Use your favorite paint program to create a graphic reminding you
of an important appointment and create a script that displays that
graphic while your Apple IIGS boots.
But that's just the beginning--Shifty List users have found dozens of
clever ways to take advantage of Shifty List's capabilities in totally
unexpected ways. What can you come up with?
Convenient Configuration
Configuring Shifty List is a snap! Just use the handy ScriptBuilder
Finder extension to add items to your script, rearrange them to change
the order they're loaded, and remove them.

In the sample script shown above, there are several permanent
initialization files (including FixDiskMountBug and FixROMBlaster), a
sound resource file (The.Suspense...), and a CDA (IINotDisturbCDA).
This script is the one I use when I want to use Spectrum with only the
bare minimum extensions loaded.
How to Get Shifty List 2.0.1
If you're already a registered owner of Shifty List 2.0, you can
simply download the Shifty List 2.0.1 updater. If you're not a
registered user of Shifty List 2.0, you have to buy a copy from
Shareware Solutions II; there's no update for the demo version of
Shifty List 2.0. Shifty List 1.0 owners must buy a copy of Shifty List
2.0.1; there's no upgrade available.
You may buy a copy of Shifty List 2.0.1 on disk from Shareware
Solutions II; to do so, send a check for $20 to:

Get the Shifty List 2.0 Demo
Be advised that this version is out-of-date; however, there will not
be any future Shifty List demos, so this is all you can get if you
want to try before you buy.
The Shifty List 2.0 demo disables printing support and severely limits
the number of items you can have in your scripts. You may try the demo
for 14 days; after that time, you're legally obligted to either buy a
copy (as described above) or delete the demo.
Download the demo.
What's New In Shifty List 2.0.1?
Shifty List 2.0.1 is a valuable update to Shifty List that corrects
several bugs, some of them serious. Here's a complete list of what's
new:
* Shifty List 2.0.1 doesn't crash if you hit an unexpected key in
the ScriptBuilder Finder extension.
* If you choose the Quit option without having saved your script
since your last change, the "Save before you quit?" dialog box
that comes up no longer forces a Save as if you click the Save
button; instead, if the file has been saved (and therefore has a
real name), it's just saved automatically without asking where to
put it.
* Choosing Help when the help system isn't installed now displays a
dialog suggesting you install the help system, then displays the
about box.
* You can no longer add the files "P8" or "ProDOS" to scripts. Being
able to do this was a Bad Thing(tm).
* Deleting an application from a script turns off the "don't add
more than one application" warning, so you can add another
application without getting yelled at.
