Re: Sound Boards

Concerning 8 track MODfile players for the IIgs, YES, it's very possible to
play them using BeatBox, an amazing alpha release from several years ago by A.
Tan and others that has that ability and plays them very well also. That
program is archived on Ground, Caltech and many other Apple2 ftp sites. The
url I'm aware of at the moment for downloading it follows:

ftp://apple.cabi.net/pub/applegs/Music.and.Sound/BeatBoxGS.alpha.shk

It may also be available from the A2 archives on Delphi. I don't know if it is
or not. If it's not then (IMHO), it should be uploaded there for the A2 Delphi
members to have use of. I'm fairly sure it was (and probably still is)
available from the Genie A2 archives.

BTW, BeatBox is also able to Edit and save both 4 track thru 8 track MODfiles
and has a sound editor within it. It's a truely astounding Apple IIgs program
that seems to have been overlooked by many and deserves their attention and use
- to show off just what the Apple IIgs can really do with MODfiles above 4
tracks. BeatBox has a few bugs and problems - with imports of NoiseTracker GS
Modules and SoundSmith music, (after all it is an Alpha release) - but, what
program doesn't have a few bugs and problems with it? :) BeatBox is a very
diverse music program for the IIgs worthy of every IIgs music users attention.

The authors did an outstanding effort with producing it and I sincerely thank
them all for releasing it! I do wish they would release the src. codes for it
and perhaps others could even improve it's current functionality, with the
BeatBox authors consent. That's a long shot of a wish now - but, who knows,
sometimes wishes do come true!

Cheers,
Tom
