Can anyone repair daed external modem?

      WHO CAN FIX A DEAD PROMETHEUS 14400 EXTERNAL MODEM?

On my recent trip to visit relatives in Oregon, I carried with me a dead
external ProModem 144e, made by Prometheus products.  I got it at a thrift
shop, but dead-on-arrival.  The CD (carrier detect) lamp is on
continuously.

To my surprise, Promethus Modems is out of business since 1996.  The "5
year no-hassle warranty" is meaningless.

No components inside look cooked. It seems too good to discard.  Is anyone
out there a "modem hacker" who could fix it, or could recommend which
components might be bad?  I could transmit a list of the ICs in it.
