I think what's going on here is that the only places that advertise
Viking RAM specifically are major catalog houses, particularly
MacWarehouse. If anyone's looked at a MacWarehouse catalog recently,
you'll notice that for "name brand" memory like Viking, their prices are
in the stratosphere -- $299 for a 64Meg DIMM is common.

So I'm sure that the poster has in fact seen an 8Meg Viking DIMM
advertised for $36, most likely in a MacWarehouse catalog.

The problem is, many (most?) readers of this newsgroup (a) don't care
about different name brands of RAM, (b) can find other name brands
(Acme, techworks, PNY, etc.) of RAM at prices only a few dollars higher
than generic RAM, or (c) both of the above.

Thus, it's easy to understand why the price the poster quoted for the 8M
DIMM seems too high--it IS too high. But it IS based on the price scale
of a major Mac catalog reseller--however, that reseller's price scale
has no relationship to the rest of the RAM market today.
