I am in suspense.  I have ordered my Apple IIc Tech Ref Manual and now
I feel frenzied with anticipation.

My speculation on this matter is that there is an internal trace that
you short on the "MODEM" connector.  Then the lines to the serial port
would be for a MiniDIN8 <-> RJ11 adaptor.

However, I can answer this question in detail once the book comes in
(it is the second edition which includes the IIc+).
