Don't know. Since 8-bit stuff seems to be affected, you could try
replacing your ProDOS and P8 files as well as BASIC.SYSTEM. Maybe one of
these has gotten messed around.
Another try is to scrap you Desktop file(s) in ICONS/ folder(s).
You mention a screen saver. These are known problem-causers. You might
try getting it out of your startup sequence.
