When I upgraded my IIe to a IIgs, I got a ROM-00 motherboard. After
reading about the free ROM-01 upgrade for the ROM and VGC (which I
didn't need) I immediately went to my local Apple dealer and got the
ROM replaced. You can't get a free upgrade now, but I the only reason
I can see people not having upgraded to the ROM-01 was that they
didn't know the free upgrade was available.
I've had a ROM-01 ever since. However, since then I traded my IIe
keyboard for a French Canadian Mac ADB keyboard and then I bought a
IIgs case from an Apple Dealer. I used my IIe power supply as an
external power supply until just recently when I made an adapter cable
to hook up an IBM power supply to my IIgs.
I think I still have my old IIe case (sans keyboard) around here
somewhere.
