Nathan also helped more people than just about anyone around here. He was
especially helpful to me.
Yes, he was prickly and ascerbic. No more so, however, than a number of
other people around here who truly deserve the moniker, "asshole."
Nathan is a creator. That's what I like best about him. He understood the
Apple II well enough to create truly good stuff on it. How many people are
left that can do that?
For all the noise here in defense of Mr. Turley, let's be clear: Mr.
Turley is not a creator. He doesn't create software. He doesn't create a
situation in which others create software. He doesn't really make a
difference. Who has been more helpful to the Apple II community in the
past five years? Nathan Mates, of course. By a VERY large margin.

I don't blame him at all. Creative people get truly pissed off at thieves
and pirates, be it in computing, art, music, writing, whatever. Of course
we don't know into what venture Nathan will move. I suspect he'll be just
as creative, and just as prickly. And most likely successful, since he
knows how to get stuff done.
Let's be clear: if you had a choice between a low-level format and
surrendering your best work to people you despise, you'd do a low-level
format.

Of course. No one kills a newsgroup. They just dwindle away from lack of
usefulness. This one is ripe for that.
steve
a continued Apple II user, though sometimes I wonder why.
