Whilst I agree with this sentiment with regards to older versions of
IE, I think the web has now evolved beyond the point where Microsoft
can control it by producing inferior non-compliant browsers.

The IE9 previews seem to indicate the penny has dropped, and they've
started competing with Google, Mozilla and Apple. And they're doing a
rather good job by the looks of it.

iPhones, iPads, and a plethora of other non-PC web access devices that
Microsoft can't control have become very important very quickly and
I'm happy to see that the web dark ages are coming to an end.

What remains to be seen is how efficiently Microsoft can now obsolete
its older browsers, which once provided a wedge preventing
competition, but are now quickly becoming an anchor preventing
Microsoft competing in the new marketplace dynamic. What you reap is
what you sow ;-)
