Case 2:  poke 2 consecutive 127s, with 2 consecutive 255s underneath.

Why isn't there a gap in the middle of the second line?  Let's pretend
for a moment that case 1 was getting cut off because the following byte
wasn't time shifted.  That leads us to try...

Case 3:  poke 2 consecutive 127s, with a 127 and 255 underneath.

Huh??  Why isn't there a gap in the second line this time???

Can anybody explain what's happening to cause these solid lines?
