Ah yes, ridiculous DOS commands like REPLACE D:*.* . /U right? Well, I'd
sure like to see something ridiculous like that for the GS or the Mac!
But wait, there are utilities available that can do that, right?
Shareware utilities that cost only $25 instead of being included free
with the operating system, right? I can't wait to open my wallet again!

Now to answer your question, "what's the problem?" try to think how easy
it would be to exchange information between "old" programs and "new"
programs, if old programs simple were accepted by the operating system.
For example, you can create a text file in good old simple Applesoft
Basic, then go back to your modern GS/OS desktop and use the very latest
AppleWorks GS to read in the same textfile.
On a Macintosh with an Apple II program running in emulation, things are
not nearly as simple! That's the problem!
