     Technically, this is an Apple II (not Mac) newsgroup. So, this
message is being cross-posted to comp.sys.mac.system .

     It seems like someone posted a similar question a few months ago
and that the fix was not too difficult (something like 'reforming' your
Desktop?).  Anyway, a Mac user will be able to help. Good luck!

Maybe it is "rebuilding" your desktop. It can't hurt. Just press the
option key before your desktop becomes visible (just after the loading
of extentions). Or, you can do it with Norton Utilities.
