ok, I shouldn't. But as I wanted to thank the people on this forum
I realized that I may as well give a more-than partial heartfelt :)
Like many folks, I have tried my best to avoid not only entering the csa2
'wars', but also to turn my eyes whenever the nastiness erupts.
The latter is more difficult. So I want to say I am sorry when I see it,
and for a particular reason: some of the people involved have helped me
personally and helped with my classroom set-up. I respect them for their
kind and generous help and am very thankful to them for it.
But when the nastiness starts, the cognitive dissonance hurts my head.
Are these the same kind and generous people who who have helped me,
and many others, with A2 issues? People I just wrote that I _respect_?
Yeah, I know I have no particular right to get on the soapbox.
I just find it hard to *very* hard to understand why some helpful and
knowledgeable people think it is OK to bring so much crap to this forum.
Still, I am grateful. People here have made many great things possible for
my class and myself that would not have happened otherwise!
So please forgive the boring 'teacher mode' and accept a
heart-felt THANK YOU to all!

p.s. We also know that attacks, flames, bait etc. are not uncommon to
many newsgroups. One that I follow seems to have an auto-bot that follows
each one with the message below. It would be nice to think we could get
the message here, but I guess people would rather choose not to. I'll
include below because I think the message is valuable.

It is always wise to think before responding, especially
to an inappropriate posting.
The one place those who are usually ignored know there is
an audience is UseNet News.
If you respond to foolish posts, personal attacks, abuse,
obscenity, insanity, the thread and the Newsgroup are put
in a downward spiral.
Ignore the ignorant in public postings. E-mail anyone
you think has posted inappropriately.
Those who do not answer e-mail, but need a public stage
to perform on, are altogether transparent.
Ask a psychiatrist or psychologist why UseNet groups
attract people who wish to draw attention away from the
topics of the group and direct attention on themselves,
no matter how negative. Ask also about those who take
pleasure in destroying and who work to put positive people
off posting.
Post positively yourself. Do not respond publicly to
what does not deserve a response.
