Heh, the cover teaser on that issue was a little misleading. It did
say "II-Compatible Notebook", but what they were really referring to was
the Laser PC4--an oversized pocket computer. It was just a 32K device
with tiny LCD 40 columns viewscreen, with the built-in equivalent of
AppleWorks (word processor, spreadsheet and database). It had a serial
connector that would let it transfer data to any desktop computer, like
the Apple II (though it had special software for the Apple II side to
translate the data into AppleWorks 3.0 format).
The closest thing to an Apple II compatible notebook these days is
either an Intel notebook running ApplePC or XGS, or an Apple Macintosh
PowerBook with a copy of IIe or Bernie ][ The Rescue. It may not be the
real thing, but it sure beats lugging around an Apple IIc with LCD screen
and battery pack. ;-)
