You'd be coming a couple of years too late. I used to be a regular
on IRC #appleIIgs back in the very early 90's, at which time it was a
neat place to discuss the IIgs, in-the-works projects, the latest new
hardware and software. I especially liked it since all the well-known
IIgs programmers would hang out there, so you could give feedback on
stuff being written (or sometimes even get involved in a project). It
was also fun to just hang around and chat too.

Over the years it slowly changed though, and these days, it is just
a hang out for (mostly) ex-Apple IIgs users and programmers who in a
lot of cases, don't even own GSes anymore. One of the reasons I stopped
dropping by was the GS had become almost taboo there, it was was simply
too off-topic for the channel. Also, most of the people I liked to chat
with disppeared (IRSman, Abandon, Yoshi, GNO, TheJazz, DWSteve, Merino,
Baz, and many others I'm forgetting). A couple of others did remain, but
if you enter the channel there is just silence -- I guess most people
chat amongst themselves privately or just logged in all day without
actually being there. In general, #appleIIgs and comp.sys.apple2 have
radically changed from what they once were to the Apple II community.
