Right; you did ask for some specific suggestions.

As mentioned earlier, the best start is to get System 6.0.1 going
from hard disk. This, plus a telecom utility (like Intrec's ProTerm 3.1
or Seven Hills's Spectrum) will make it possible to download other
utilities, games, etc. from archive sites and easily move them to your
GS via a NULL modem connection. (For details about Downloading and
moving files see the F00xT1TCOM.TXT and F00xT2TCOM.TXT files in the
Apple II Comp.sys.apple2 FAQs on Ground.)

An alternative is to get a startup disk which gets you into some
decent version of System and includes a basic telecom utility and
GS-ShrinkIt. This will let you download software and move it to your GS.

Again, until you upgrade memory, your GS will feel very cramped. To
easily work with large downloads, run System 6.0.1, and run many GS
programs, you really do need a 4MB mem expansion card and a hard disk is
nearly a necessity.

Once you have a way to download files, move them to your GS, and
work with the files, what you 'should' buy or download depends upon your
interests.
